About EN13432 Certification
EN 13432 is the European standard that defines the criteria for industrially compostable packaging and materials. To meet this certification, a product must:
- Biodegrade at least 90% within 6 months under industrial composting conditions (high heat and humidity).
- Disintegrate physically within 12 weeks — meaning the material breaks down into pieces smaller than 2 mm.
- Leave no toxic residues — the resulting compost must be safe for plant growth and free of heavy metals or harmful chemicals.
- Support soil health — the composted material must not negatively affect the quality or structure of the soil.
